The advantages of AI tools are based on the potential increase in the efficiency of office and project processes. Mechanical and repetitive tasks can be replaced by AI applications. They can free up time and energy for creative and planning activities or the core tasks in the architectural office. In times of a growing shortage of skilled workers, delegating suitable tasks to AI is an option.
The cost of AI implementation and the human comparison still required to ensure quality should be strategically considered and weighed up according to the cost-benefit principle. AI-based tools should also be introduced in a targeted manner and with caution. From a data protection perspective, care must be taken to ensure that personal or other internal information is not used for AI processes. This applies in particular if the underlying servers are not located in Germany or the EUEU Europäische Union and are therefore not subject to the applicable data protection legislation.
The lack of transparency of the AI-generated results is particularly critical, as the black-box nature of AI algorithms makes it difficult to trace the underlying sources. Under these conditions, it is necessary to check the results, especially in areas that are relevant to security and legally vulnerable, but this is difficult to implement. In addition, commercial providers often use copyright-protected works on the Internet for their data training without hindrance, and possibly via several institutions, by means of so-called common crawling. It should therefore also be clarified under which copyright conditions AI-generated content may be used and published.
